Judd Trump opened his 2024-25 season account with a scintillating display at the Shanghai Masters in July.

The Ace in the Pack defeated Shaun Murphy 11-5 in the final of the Chinese event to kickstart his campaign with a win.

After that strong start to the season, Trump has set a big goal for himself as he looks to capture the Xi’an Grand Prix.

Judd Trump eyes up World No. 1

The current World No. 2 hasn’t been top of the rankings since November 2021 and that’s something he is looking to change.

Speaking to WST’s YouTube channel, the 35-year-old said: “This year [the aim] is just to win as much as possible and try and get back to number one in the world.

“I think when I was kind of really dominating for that spell, the world number one just kind of added a bit extra I think, and really helped the mindset”

Trump is looking to topple current World No. 1 Mark Allen, who won three WST events last season.

Trump’s Shanghai triumph a dream start

After not entering the Championship League in Leicester, Trump’s WST season could not have started more impressively with his win in Shanghai.

The 2019 World Snooker Champion defeated three former World Champions in Mark Williams, Ronnie O’Sullivan and Murphy to pick up his first tournament of the year.

It was a difficult route through to his maiden championship of the season, with Trump revealing what was tough about playing O’Sullivan, but the man with 990 career century breaks got the job done in Shanghai.

The Ace in the Pack now turns his attention to the Xi’an Grand Prix, where Trump plays Lyu Haotian in the last 32 of the event as he looks to continue his quest to reach the top of the rankings.
