Every sportsperson craves perfection; in snooker that’s a 147 maximum break and in darts, it’s a nine-dart finish.
Fans and players alike of both sports have long debated which of the feats is harder to achieve and darts Premier League Champion Luke Littler has given his verdict.
‘The Nuke’ has hit four nine-dart finishes already in 2024, equalling the yearly record after only six months so it’s no surprise to hear the teenager label a maximum break as the harder accomplishment.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the yearly nine-darter record holder weighed in on the long-running debate.
“Hole-in-one, easiest. Nine-darter second and then 147 hardest.”
The teenager’s verdict is unlikely to settle the debate but irrespective of your opinion, achieving perfection in any sport is a magnificent achievement.

Perhaps the only person who can claim they have achieved the holy grail in all three sports is former snooker World Champion Shaun Murphy.
‘The Magician’ has hit eight maximum breaks in his career and he told The Telegraph that he hit a nine-darter with Phil Taylor’s darts and a hole-in-one at the Royal Worlington and Newmarket Club.
“It happened once and I don’t think it will ever happen again. I’ve yet to meet anyone else who has done all three. If people want to join the club, applications are open. It’s a debate that rages on social media. You wouldn’t believe how many people don’t believe me. Jealousy is a terrible thing.”
Maybe a crossover tournament should take place to settle the debate once and for all. Dart players Gary Anderson and Joe Cullen are both capable amateur snooker players whilst three-time snooker World Champion Mark Williams is a very effective dart player.
