It’s been a turbulent year for the Wizard of Wishaw but last night he rolled back the years on the grandest stage of them all.
Higgins has been the champion of The Crucible Theatre on four occasions and now he’s in the last eight once again.
Last night, he defeated Mark Allen 13-12 after trailing by 63 points and producing a wonderful clearance in the deciding frame.
Higgins would have finished the season outside of the top 16 had he lost to Allen but the experienced performer did what he always does.
He cleared the table emphatically from a perilous position to set up a quarter-final with Kyren Wilson that gets underway today.

The 48-year-old was visibly emotional after this win and clearly playing snooker at the top level still means a lot to him.
Higgins will be eyeing a fifth world title now and on the decent side of the draw it’s hard to bet against him reaching the final.
